It's almost time.......

For fall that is!! As much as I love  summer I love fall even more! And today here in upstate New York it sure feels like fall is in the air. It's a beautiful sunny, blue sky, comfortable kind of day. Its warm, but not too warm and there's a lovely fresh breeze blowing and not a cloud in the sky.
Days like today make me think of all the fun fall things I want to do this year. I get all gitty just thinking about it!

On my fall to do  list is:

Go apple picking. I haven't been in years and now that my little guy can walk on his own I think it will be the perfect time to make a trip to the apple orchard.

Once we have bushels of apples I plan to make lots of apple pies. As well as batches and batches of applesauce. Every year my grandma, cousin and I get together and have our traditional apple sauce making night. There is just something  special about that applesauce when it's made with grandmas help! The best applesauce out there if I do say so myself!

Another soon to be tradition on my fall to do list is the Walker Homestead Show in Brookfield, Massachusetts. Every September they have their fall show and this year will be the first of many fall trips I hope to make to the Homestead show.  http://www.walkerhomestead.com/

A week after the Walker Show I will be heading to Warrensburg, New York for the largest garage sale. http://www.warrensburggaragesale.com/ . My mom lives near there so we will stay at her house. Which is great! Since after a long day of  walking and shopping, it'll be nice not to have to  go too far to crash!

I also can't wait to start decorating for autumn. My house needs a little warming up. During the summer months I like to keep my decor light and summery. Come fall tho, I am so ready to darken things up and make the house warm and cozy!

I love making the house warm and cozy, and what better way to do that then with some good hearty home cooked meals. I love when the nights are getting darker, the air is getting chillier and there's a warm home cooked meal waiting on the table.  Now if that doesn't say warm and cozy, I don't know what does!

There are so many things to do in the fall. Some things I haven't mentioned yet are picking out mums at the local farm stand,  going to the pumpkin patch and picking out the perfect pumpkin, taking a nice fall drive through the back roads, buying cider donuts, raking leaves ( or more like watching the husband rake them!) , taking a fall walk in the woods, my list could go on and on.

I know fall will be here soon. It is such a short season so I plan to savior every moment of it!

Hope you all have a fantastic day!
Until the next time,
Heather

We were still in the 100 degree weather when you wrote this but finally feeling like fall here! I'm sitting here with a crock pot of potato soup reading your blog and dreaming about fall.. mmmm!

We're going apple picking this year also. For the same reasons as you. Would you mind sharing your applesauce recipe with me? I would love to try it but the problem is finding a good recipe. I feel better about cooking and baking when I get a favorite recipe from "someone that I know". Yours looks delicious!

One of these years I'm gonna make it to the Walker Homestead. I have to say that I get so envious when I see pictures from their shows. I still remember your post from last year's trip to the largest garage sale!

You've got some great things lined out for fall. Wish I was closer to you, we could have a great time shopping together. =] Enjoy the season~

Oh Angie it would be wonderful if you lived closer! I don't have any prim loving friends near by so I think you might need to move here! We are having a cold rainy September day today it sure feels like fall is here too.
I don't really have a recipe for the applesauce. We just cut and core the apples in half leaving the skins on (usually mac's and/or cortlands) put them in a pot with a little water at the bottom heat it over med heat. Stir them until they are alittle mushy and then we put the apples into the apple sauce strainer thingy. Once it's all mushed and looks like apple sauce we add cinnamon and sugar. Keep tasteing it until you get it to your liking. And thats it. Nothing fancy! Hope you try it! Let me know if you have any questions! Enjoy apple picking and enjoy the wonderful fall season! Oh yeah and enjoy your days to yourself!

I would so love to live there! Every time you show pictures from around there, I am in awe of the beauty you are surrounded by! Living in Oklahoma, we are more prairie here... not much to look at. =[

Well that applesauce sounds easy enough. Thanks so much for sharing how you do it. I am definitely gonna try it!

Thanks girl! Have a wonderful week~
